{Blog Series} Sandra’s Story: Boudoir is for EVERYbody

“TMI!!!” Yes…. I had a friend, well maybe just a “facebook friend” make that comment on my post about how excited I was to be making a boudoir photo book for my husband for our 20th Wedding Anniversary.  Her simple little comment made me second guess my decision to let my friends know what I was doing and then guess again… maybe I shouldn’t have my pictures taken (thinking I’m not skinny enough as I felt I needed to lose another 20 pounds, I’m 41 and too old to be doing this, etc.).  Then other comments started to flow in…. “you’ll rock it girl”…. “you’ve got this”…. “awesome”…. “I wish my wife would do something like that for me” – said an old high school friend!  Then my mind was back on track!
I’m a stay-at-home mom and when considering doing a boudoir shoot  I said to myself “Mothers Don’t Do This, I have stretch marks, extra skin from having 3 boys and muscle separation called “Diastasis Recti” which causes my stomach muscles to come outward and my belly to balloon out like a ball so I always look like I’m pregnant!  I have to work very hard at trying to hide it and tuck it all in with the clothing I choose.  So how in the world am I going to find sexy underwear and keep it all together for a boudoir photoshoot???  Veronica of VeroLuce Boudoir gave me a few suggestions and one of the suggestions she had was to try to find something flowy like a babydoll.  So I did. And I got brave and bought something fitted and sexy, too.  I just decided not to worry about it and stress as its all about the angle of the camera and the photographer behind it! And I trusted Veronica completely.
The day of the shoot I really thought I was going to be so scared and that my heart was going to jump out of my chest as I was about to knock on that hotel room door!  But then that feeling quickly went away!  Veronica and her team knew exactly how to calm me down. While I was getting hair and make-up done, we were chatting about the clothes I brought (or lack of), husbands/boyfriends, kids; just the normal stuff you would with your own girlfriends. It put me right at ease and made me comfortable.
Then it was time to jump on the bed…. YIKES!!!!  I thought, “How am I gonna pull this off”?  But Veronica quickly gave me step-by-step instructions on slight movements and easy positions that felt natural (and some not so much but looked great) as I pretended the camera was my husband.  I was really surprised at how calm I was and not nervous at all!  I felt like I could do this all day!  Veronica would show me pictures from the back of her camera occasionally and I was like WOW!  John’s gonna love this gift!
Then the day came…. on our 20th Anniversary in Jamaica I gave John the album.  I wish you could have seen his expression as he turned the pages!  It was all worth it!
I may have started out doing this as a gift for my husband, but as I looked at the pictures, heard the comments from my close friends that I showed it to and how Veronica made me feel on the day of the shoot, I knew I really was doing this for myself and there’s nothing wrong with that!

  1. Nice post. I learn something more challenging on different blogs everyday. It will always be stimulating to read content from other writers and practice a little something from their store. Id prefer to use some with the content on my blog whether you dont mind. Natually Ill give you a link on your web blog. Thanks for sharing.
